Enjo Farm - A Peaceful Retreat
Finding hidden treasures often comes down to luck, and stumbling upon Enjo in December 2019 was just that—a pleasant surprise. I found it while casually browsing Google Maps, and little did I know, that it would become a cherished retreat nestled in the heart of South Africa's natural beauty. Picture this, farm camping and cozy cederberg cottages, all wrapped up in one epic retreat.
The journey from Cape Town to Enjo takes about three and a half hours, mostly driving on the N7 and then turning onto the R364 through Clanwilliam. After that, it's a bit of a bumpy ride on a dirt road for around 30 minutes. In the summertime, a regular car works fine on this road, but it's essential to make sure your vehicle, especially the tires, is in good shape. And since there's no reception around, it's best to be prepared.
Upon arrival, I was welcomed by Estrella, whose hospitality set the tone for the entire experience. I stayed in the Lazy Leopard cottage, which is pretty spacious and cozy. There's no cell service here, so it's a great opportunity to disconnect and enjoy the simplicity of the surroundings.
The cottage has a nice outdoor lounge area with a braai (=barbecue), perfect for relaxing evenings under the stars. Although the nearby ‘Biedourivier’ river may dry up in the summer, the highlight is definitely the outdoor bath. There's nothing quite like soaking in bubbles while gazing up at the stars—it's pure bliss.
During the day, there's plenty to do, from scenic hikes to exploring the Cederberg mountains in a 4x4. And when it gets too hot, the pool is a welcome retreat from the sun.
Enjo provides everything you need for a comfortable stay, including braai wood, ice, and drinks, so you don't have to worry about running out of supplies. However, be prepared for some unexpected visitors—like the baboons that sometimes show up during braais. One time, a friend managed to scare them away before they caused any trouble.
If you're after a truly romantic accommodation look no further than this charming Lazy Leopard cottage. Imagine this... You and your loved one, snuggled up in a cosy little cottage, complete with all the creature comforts. You spend your days exploring the great outdoors, and then as the sun sets, you light up the braai, grilling your favourite food under the stars. You wrap up the day by slipping into a warm outdoor bath, sharing a bottle of wine, and just marvelling at the blanket of stars above. Sound dreamy?
Enjo is so popular that you often have to book months in advance to secure a spot. But it's no wonder—it's a peaceful sanctuary where time seems to stand still, and every moment is filled with relaxation and tranquility. So if you’re looking for an epic accommodation in Cederberg check out Enjo.
